What size puppy carrier do I need?

A puppy’s walks should be short, gentle, and age-appropriate. A commonly used guideline is five minutes of walking per month of age, up to twice a day. For example, a 3-month-old puppy may enjoy two 15-minute walks.

Over-exercising young puppies can place unnecessary strain on developing joints, so it’s best to prioritise sniffing, exploration, and rest over distance.

Many puppies can begin using a lightweight, well-fitted harness from around 8 weeks old. Harnesses are often recommended over collars for puppies as they help distribute pressure more evenly across the body and reduce strain on the neck.

Choosing an adjustable harness allows room for growth and supports safe lead training during early walks.

Yes — having a dedicated bed from day one helps puppies feel secure and settled in their new home. A supportive, comfortable bed gives your puppy a familiar place to rest, sleep, and self-soothe, which is especially important during the first few weeks of transition.

Placing the bed in a calm area of the home can also support healthy sleep routines.

Puppy carriers can be a safe and practical way to travel, particularly for younger puppies who aren’t ready for long walks or busy environments. A well-structured carrier allows your puppy to feel close and protected while still observing the world around them.

Always ensure the carrier is well-ventilated, secure and appropriately sizedand limit time inside to short, comfortable journeys.

We usually recommend a size Small (up to 4.5kgs) for puppies. We have recently added a size Tiny (up to 2.5kgs) in our Adventurer and Explorer ranges which is also perfect for puppies and small toy breeds.
